Which Types of Cancer Have been Linked to Obesity ?
The rates of obesity have increased over the past decade. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in 2015 the incidence of obesity in the USA was approximately 6% higher at 39.6%. Over 70% of adults are considered overweight or obese. Furthermore, an alarming number of people are unaware of their weight status.
Most of us know that obesity increases the risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes. However, studies also show that compared to individuals who have a normal weight, those who are overweight or are obese have an increased risk for several types of cancer. The evidence is pretty consis-tent, study after study demonstrates that higher amounts of body fat are associated with higher rates of cancer:
- Overweight and obese women are 3 times more likely to develop endometrial cancer.
